Explore thousands of deep sky objects, expand your knowledge of the deep sky, and plan your evening of star-hopping at the telescope with Night Sky Planner.

Night Sky Planner is a 2D ‘planisphere’ - a map of the night sky designed for amateur astronomers who want to explore the world of deep sky objects, such as galaxies, nebulae, star clusters and asterisms. It includes all of the deep sky objects in the New General Catalog, amounting to well over 7000 objects, including all 110 objects in the Messier catalog.

Using Night Sky Planner you can choose any time and location, and explore your way around the night sky, getting information about stars and deep sky objects, bookmarking any objects you want to add to your viewing plan, and returning to them later when you want to remember where to find them in the sky. You can sort your bookmarks by constellation or right ascension, to help plan your way around the sky most efficiently.

Zooming into areas of interest is simple, and allows you to explore any part of the sky in greater detail. You can also easily change your settings to focus on the items you are interested in. Animation controls are included to help you see how the night sky changes over time.

Night Sky Planner will automatically show your current location, or you can choose to enter and save locations manually, or choose from a list of over 1,000 cities worldwide. You can also turn on automatic compass mode to rotate the map to your current direction, making it easier to find the objects you have bookmarked.
